Born on September 2, 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon to an Hawaiian-Chinese father and English mother, Reeves later spent much of his youth in Toronto, Canada after his parents divorced. In high school, his major passion was ice hockey, later dropping out completely at 17 to work at various jobs while pursuing an acting career.
With minor roles and commercial parts on Canadian television, Reeves first appearance on film was in a small role in Youngblood, followed by more TV bit parts before his 1986 breathrough performance in The River's Edge as a troubled teen. Two years later, Reeves had another hit in the time-traveling comedy hit, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. However, Reeves surprised audiences - as he still continues to do - in a variety of roles ranging from a street hustler in My Own Private Idaho to a vampire killer in Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula to enlightened spirit in Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Budda.
Then in 1994 came Speed, an action-adventure thriller in which Reeves suddenly emerged as a strong leading man, followed by another series of action-adventure performances in Johnny Mnemonic and Chain Reaction before impressing audiences again with a subtley terrorizing performance opposite Al Pacino in Devil's Advocate.
Most recently, Reeves has become synonymous with his role as Neo in The Matrix, the mega-hit franchise that proved successful in two more outings with The Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Reloaded all receiving big box office. Reeves is current appearing in the the lead role of Constantine (movie trailer), a supernatural detective mystery. |
